One Network for All - The optical in-house data backbone

This is Part 2 of our article series to Polymer Optical Fiber (POF) as Home Network Infrastructure. This article shows how the optical backbone can be used in manyfold ways to integrate IP based network applications and - devices.

The Polymer Optical Fibre (POF) cable is everywhere in the electrical installation available. It can be used :

  • as data cable for structured LAN cabling
  • as data backbone to integrate IP-based home control functions and devices like energy management, smart home applications (e.g. KNXnet), safety and security systems, supporting living for elderly people, door access systems and many more.
